Personal City Guides - References for Sergei

Sergei (
37 y.o. freelance professional tour giude in St.Petersburg, 12 years of experience, work for travel agencies, English and Spanish.

I invite you to check my references (listed here in the reverse chronological order):

Hiring Sergei ( as our cultural tour guide was the best decision we made in planning our visit to St.Petersburg. He has a wonderful story-telling ability that he uses to bring to life the many Czars as we toured their homes, looked at their artworks and walked in their parks. He made our trip the dream holiday of a lifetime.

I know we would not have had as much fun, or seen as much, or learned as much about St.Petersburg, had we not hired Sergei.

Not only is Sergei knowledgeable and informed, he is fun to be with and has a very pleasant personality. Sergei also proved to be as indispensable in the planning of our itinerary, as he was in the execution of our visit. He helped us navigate the city, as well as the culture and the language.

He offered to purchase our ballet and opera tickets in advance because they always sell out, so we did, and we enjoyed a sold-out perfomance at the Mariinsky(Kirov) theatre. He also offered to purchase our museum and palaces tickets in advance so we could avoid the lines at the ticket office, which we did. With him as our tour guide, we were not only able to slip into all the museums and palaces through guide only entrances, and we were able to bypass the long entrance line (some of them were up to two hours long).

He also looked out for us, as we were often distracted by the sights. He warned us of the gangs of pickpockets that work the area, and when we asked for recommendations to restaurants, he told us that unlike ten years ago, when one could only find good restaurants in the better hotels, the city now has many wonderful restaurants, he recommended two great restaurants, which we really enjoyed.

We spent 6 days with Sergei in October in St.Petersburg - he's charmimg, smart, very knowledgeable, professional, considerate, and a terrific guide. He made sure to incorporate our specific interests into our visit. Without a doubt Sergei made our trip to St.Petersburg very special.

I spent four days this summer touring with Sergei in St.Petersburg and they were perfect. Having never booked a guide over the internet I was not sure, but all my expectations were met. Having traveled all over the world, I knew that this city would require a guide unlike my usual desire for independent, self directed travel. Many month prior to my trip to St.Petersburg, I read about the sites I wanted to see and advised Sergei. He replied with a well organized itinerary and made arrengments to obtain entry to some of the harder places in advance. He secured a nice Mercedes car and driver which was nice for drives to some of the sites outside the city.

He negotiated the local issues during our tour making sure that my requests were met and insulating me from some of the complexities of travel to Russia. He also was sensitive to my needs as a traveler sometimes weary from a long day. Further he was well educated about the tourist sites and made them come alive as we saw them. He also is well versed in the gay life of St.Petersburg, advising me on the scene and taking me to some of the clubs one of our nights there.

I would highly recommend Sergei without reservation to be your guide in St.Petersburg and credit him for making my experience so memorable. The art, culture and architecture in his beautiful city are insurpassed and are not be missed.

Planning a trip to Russia could be so much enriched and simplified should you have a guide to help you during your stay. This is what I have done this summer while travelling to St.Petersburg for a week. I am from Quebec City,Canada, and was there as part of medical meeting and for cultural interests.Having Sergei as a private guide made my journey so much nicer and easier, and revealed to me more of the spirit of the city. He is a very pleasant and professional person and make every effort to fulfill the type of visit you are interested in. In top of city tours, entry to the museums, concert and ballet tickets, he provided with important information to be able to get around the city safely and freely. My visit to St.Pete was memorable, lively and enjoyable!

In August of 2002 I was on The World of Residensea cruise ship. We were in St. Petersburg for three days and the friend I was traveling with had arranged to have Sergei as our guide to the city. I could not have been more pleased by Sergei during those three magical days. His English is superb and matched only by his knowledge of the city and its history. What I particularly enjoyed was that Sergei was able to gauge just how much information to impart without overwhelming me. His insightful remarks and his keen sense of humor only added to the enjoyment of an already amazing city. Sergei was able to get us excellent tickets to the Kirov Ballet, a private tour of the Yussopov Palace and knew just the right shop to visit when I asked to find a beautifully illustrated book of Russian fairy tales in English. As an owner of a travel agency, I have engaged guides in a number of cities. I only wish that there were guides this wonderful in most other cities of the world.

On July 4th, 2002 we were taking a cruise to the Scandinavian capitals with a two day stop in St. Petersburg, Russia. We had the best tour guide any one could ask for. Sergei ( was incredible. His English was exceptional and his very friendly personality really made our two days a most memorable experience that I will not soon forget! PLUS....he's a great looking guy!!!! We had a Mercedes and driver to boot!!!!! They both were very honest and made you feel safe!!!!! If you have any questions feel free to contact me.

To all those who read this, I had always wanted to go to St. Petersburg and the Hermitage Museum. I came across Sergei through this and decided I would have him for a couple of hours to show me the Hermitage. After meeting him and touring the Hermitage I decided to keep him the entire day and the following day. Sergei knows just about everything that is needed to know about St. Petersburg and the treasures it holds, not only did he know the dates and almost all the works of art in the Hermitage, he knew the path to take to see everything (that was incredible!). In addition, I dragged him through the snow and cold to show me the entire city - he knew all about who lived where, when, all the churches, the history. He was very gracious, spoke perfect English, it was truly incredible. I have traveled the world, first-class, and have had many guides and interpreters. No one can compare to Sergei. When I came across his profile, I was hesitant, this is to tell you not to think twice about this one.

This past June Adventure Bound Expeditions, a gay tour group specializing in travel for gay men, visited St.Petersburg. Our guide was Sergei and I can not say enough good things about him.He was most knowledgeable about the historical and cultural sites we visited, spoke excellent English, was personable, was willing to adjust the schedule to meet the need of the group, was always on time, and directed us to the best eating places in town.I would highly recommend him as a tour guide. On a scale of 1 to 10 he was 9.5. Our trip to the Hermitage will be remembered forever.

I visited St.Petersburg in July 2001.Sergei was my guide and I can't recommend him enough. His English is excellent, he knows his country and can answer any and all questions, and he is happy to take you to local restaurants and clubs. I was staying at an expensive western style hotel, I enjoyed my meals with Sergei, where the locals go. Feel free to contact me at if you have any questions.

Hi. I can highly recommend Sergei as an expert English speaking tour guide. He was my guide last September for 3 days and I really felt like I was in the best hands. I saw and I learned a lot about this beautiful city. He also has a very agreeable personality and is very eager to please. So, enjoy St.Petersburg - you will be in excellent hands with Sergei as your guide.
